The meeting was organised by the Global Peace Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, of which the Vice President’s wife was the grand patron.
During the meeting which was attended by 40 members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and another 40 from the apex Muslim organisation, Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), Mrs Sambo called on politicians in the country to place national interest above personal interest as they prepare for the 2015 general elections.
According to Mrs Sambo, every Nigerian, politicians in particular, have the duty to ensure peaceful, free, fair and credible elections.
She therefore called on youths not to allow themselves to be used as thugs to cause mayhem during and after elections.
“As we approach the 2015 general elections, we owe it a duty to ourselves and posterity to ensure peaceful, free, fair and credible elections. We should work together, placing national interest above personal interests so that we can have elections that will give birth to a strong and more united Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
“May I therefore call on the youths not to allow anyone recruit you to perpetrate violence or other forms of criminal activities,” she stated.
She acknowledged the efforts of traditional and religious leaders in building and maintaining peace in Kaduna State and urged them not to relent in their efforts in ensuring peace during the elections.
Earlier, two prominent Christian leaders in the North, Bishop Idowu Fearon and Reverend Joseph Hayab said both Islam and Christianity encouraged love for one another and had warned believers against causing harm to fellow mankind.
